  Researchers from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark say that excessive reduction of salt intake by people who already have heart problems, can help increase the likelihood of death.

To such conclusions scientists came after a thorough examination of previous studies, which involved more than 40 thousand people. They found that the salt rejection increases blood cholesterol levels by 2, 5% and 7% increase in blood levels of a specific type of fat promotes the formation of thrombi.

Moreover, reducing the use of salt contributes to renal renin production and hormone aldosterone, which in turn leads to increased blood pressure.

Dr. Niels Graudal, lead researcher, said that "instead of reducing excessive salt intake, people should focus on quitting smoking, reducing alcohol consumption and excess weight loss."

Although this study has the opposite effect, since a reasonable reduction of salt intake, no doubt, be useful for the prevention of strokes, heart attacks and heart failure.

According to the NHS, adults should eat no more than 6g of salt a day, which is about one teaspoon, and try to avoid foods such as bacon, cheese, sausage, salted roasted nuts.
