For 15 hours, 30 surgeons transplanted the victim's nose, lips, skin and muscles and nerves taken from a dead donor. Doctors hope that very soon face the Dallas sensitivity increase by 90%, so very soon the young man will be able to realize his dream - to feel again kiss his three year old daughter.
But to restore vision Winsome surgeons could not, but the young man did not give up and believe in the bright future! After all, what it is impossible today may be possible tomorrow.
The cost of the operation amounted to 300 thousand dollars, all expenses were covered by the Ministry of Defense: the hospital has been allocated 3, 4 million. Dollars to carry out five such procedures. The fact that the Pentagon intends to use the technique to help military.
By the way, the first full face transplant, doctors did a year ago in Spain (the patient became man, who suffered from a shot from a gun), and the first partial transplant - in 2005 in France (then the doctors helped the woman that her dog was bitten badly). All in all the world there have been 11 such operations, nine of which were unsuccessful.
