 The Mediterranean diet protect against fractures  Spend two years in the Mediterranean diet in middle age, and it will help to provide additional protection to the bone end of life. This is the conclusion, researchers from Spain.

In this warm southern country where Mediterranean diet is the most popular, it was decided to conduct a study Prevencion con Dieta Mediterranea, studied the preventive properties of the diet. It was attended by 127 people aged 55 to 80 years who are at risk because of the threat of heart disease (the victim of type 2 diabetes, hypertension and other ailments).

Initially, the study was to confirm the already well-known facts that   Mediterranean diet   useful for the health of the cardiovascular system, and that was done. But then, scientists have been able to go further and to establish the impact of diet on the human skeletal system.

It turned out that the supporters of the Mediterranean diet are more strong bones. This is due to the fact that the active use of olive oil hormone stimulates the production of osteocalcin in blood, is an indicator of bone strength. That is why in countries where the diet is widespread, much rarer cases of osteoporosis compared with northern European countries.

Study participants were divided into three groups. First sitting on Mediterranean diet with nuts, the second - with at least 50 ml of olive oil per day, and the third - with a low fat content. Volunteers from the second group were asked to use olive oil for cooking dishes and salads. They were also asked to have less red meat, avoid butter, cream, fast food, starchy foods, and alcohol is limited to small doses of red wine.

After two years, it is this group of people mentioned as possible an increase in bone density and very high levels of osteocalcin. The other two types of diets did not give such an effect.
