For the first time in the history of medical practice in the French Pierre and Marie Curie University scientists have made a transfusion of artificial blood.
This occurred after several successful were conducted experiments on laboratory animals. From bone marrow samples taken from the volunteers participating in the experiment, they were isolated stem cells, which form the basis for the "cultivation" of red blood cells - red blood cells.
Monitoring of circulating red blood cells introduced, carried out after the infusion of artificial blood, showed that the survival rate of artificial red cells are comparable with natural blood. Luc Douay, head of the research team, said that in a short time, a shortage of blood will be solved.
