American scientists from Harvard University have created a drug that can save people a perspective of permanent deafness. With it is possible to regenerate hair cells of the inner ear, which picks up sound.
The drug stimulates the inner ear, which is under development, so it is unpronounceable name LY411575. With it is possible to restore the hair cells of the inner ear, which are sound sensors that can be called effective cure deafness . Until recently, scientists could not recover the cells that have died due to various factors, such as prolonged exposure to noise, infections or toxic drugs.
This type of deafness is often accompanied by a well-known rock musicians and DJs. In medicine, the disease is considered incurable. However, the creators of LY411575 were able to partially restore hearing in laboratory mice that are deaf due to exposure to loud sounds. Though the study of the new method treatment of deafness is still at an early stage, the authors believe that they have managed to create an effective cure for noise-induced hearing loss in humans.
Birds and fish are able to self-regenerate hair sensory cells of the inner ear, but mammals do not have this ability. New cure for deafness reprogram cells by inhibiting a protein called Notch. Earlier laboratory studies found out that the signals from Notch do not give cochlear stem cells to transform into a new sensory cells. LY411575 inhibits Notch, therefore, has nothing to prevent sensory cells to regenerate and restore hearing. (READ MORE)
