Vegetarians do not live longer than meat eaters only, but also are more slender. That is the conclusion reached by researchers from the American Loma Linda University.
Vegetarians
As reported in the journal Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the study results were based on observations of five different groups of people. In the 1st group focused carnivores , In the 2nd poluvegetariantsy (eat meat only occasionally), in the 3rd fish vegetarians (allow fish consumption), in the 4th dairy vegetarians (allow consumption of dairy products) and, finally, in the 5th vegans (no ate no animal products). In all groups of volunteers received the same number of calories - about 2,000 per day.
At the end of observations smaller body mass index was at vegans, and most important - at carnivores . Tracking the victims of obesity (body mass index over 30), observers found that the least the problem faced by vegans (9, 4%), and most meat eaters (33, 3%). Obesity affects about 24% poluvegetariantsev, 17, 9% fish and 16, 7% of dairy vegetarians.
Although the total number of calories consumed in different groups of different types of nutrients. Meat-eaters ate less total vegetable proteins, beta-carotene, fiber and magnesium, and most of all fatty acids, dangerous for the heart. Of course, diet is not the only factor in weight gain, but the researchers did not study other factors, such as physical activity and socioeconomic status. (READ MORE)
