Psychotherapy helps to better medicines for depression

Psychotherapy is as effective in combating depression as medication from the group of antidepressants. That is the conclusion drawn by researchers from the University of Bern.

Swiss researchers believe that their discovery will help to translate more patients on non-pharmacological form treatment of depression . Note that only the official statistics antidepressants   are ineffective in almost half of cases. Until recently, their only alternative was a psychological therapy, ie regular meetings with a psychologist or psychiatrist. Some people are also encouraged to play sports.

These conclusions were based on the study data 198 published scientific studies that have affected more than 15 000 patients receiving one of the seven types of psychotherapeutic interventions. The researchers compared each of these types with each other and then evaluate their effectiveness when compared with patients in the waiting or receiving standard antidepressants .

It was found that all seven types of non-drug therapy is more effective in reducing symptoms of depression. At the same time between efficiency techniques themselves Psychotherapy   there was no significant difference. Psychologists assisted the different groups of patients, as the very young and the elderly deeply and mothers suffering from postpartum depression.

Equally effective were both individual and group lessons psychotherapy . Patients have a better, even if it just followed the instructor on the internet. Such a high effect of therapy makes it a worthy alternative to antidepressants. (READ MORE)
