Good news for people who are allergic to peanuts! A new experimental treatment for allergies, conducted at Cambridge University, was a success.
Doctors Hospital Addenbrooke's in Cambridge (United Kingdom) managed to find an innovative way to fight the disease. Initially, the head of research Andrew Clark suggested that patients may reduce the sensitivity to peanuts, adding doses of peanut flour miserable in their diet. These doses were increased gradually over several months.
The experimental results have surpassed all expectations. In 21 of the 23 children tested decreased sensitivity to peanuts . Now the subjects can eat up to 12 nuts a day without harm to health.
This greatly changed their lives. After all, before the young patients and their families had to carefully study the composition of the foods and dishes to avoid peanuts. Some could not even stay close to the nut. Simple exchange handshakes with the person drink before peanuts, could cause a patient allergic reaction . Its symptoms vary from indigestion to anaphylaxis fatalities. Only a few manage to "grow" this kind of food allergies . But the Cambridge medical experiments gave these people hope. However, scientists warn that to treat yourself in any case impossible. The new method is still poorly understood, the work on it continues.
The head of research Andrew Clark and Pamela Evan has managed to get permission for a full-scale clinical trials involving hundreds of volunteers. The study will be funded by the National Institute of Health Research. The research team hopes that their new method could become routine in the fight against this kind of food allergies and will apply everywhere. It is possible that the results of new experiments to help find a cure allergy treatment other food - milk, egg, chocolate, etc.
