American scientists from Indiana University found that the harm of diet with an emphasis on protein foods - the so-called Atkins diet - was at one time greatly exaggerated.
Recall that the first nutritionists expressed doubts about the safety of low-carbohydrate diet. And the Atkins diet, with its high concentration of proteins, in their opinion, could harm the kidneys. However, as it turned out as a result of recent research, some people protein diet no harm. In particular, it is absolutely not dangerous for people with healthy kidneys.
Previously it was thought that high levels of protein in the diet increases the rate of filtration in the kidney, thereby causing damage to the tissues of these organs - like the head of research Alon Friedman. In order to obtain direct evidence of these concerns, Friedman and his team compared the effects on renal function of two diets - as a low-carb, and one that is rich in protein. And they watched - for two years - for more than three hundred (307) full of men and women who had no previous kidney no problems.
Two years later, researchers tested the volunteers how their kidneys.
