Experts from Germany, using the technique of magnetic resonance survey found that can alleviate the condition of a person suffering from chronic pain. The study of the reactions of the brain and spinal cord showed that relieves pain by a method which has long been known - namely distraction.

Scientists as well as many people who know firsthand what chronic pain, it is known from suffering can distract any occupation or even work. Idleness is (even involuntary), on the contrary, aggravates heavy feeling, as zastavlet all the time to think about your problem.
Previously, physicians believed that manifests itself as a psychological effect. However, the new study found that relief in this case is connected not only with psychology - exercises that help a person to escape, launching a series of physiological reactions, causing some changes in the spinal cord and brain.
Medics carried out an experiment. A group of 20 men were asked to perform several mental tasks of varying difficulty, all the participants were exposed to the impact of pain experience. The results showed that at the time of meeting the challenge of volunteers felt less pain than when solving simple task. This sensitive technique revealed reduced activity in the spinal cord of volunteers while working on a difficult task - that is, the spinal cord at the head spent a much smaller amount of pain signals.
After analyzing the data, researchers concluded that the distraction of pain at the moment promotes the production of natural opiates in the body. It is these substances and provide an analgesic effect. This hypothesis was confirmed by experiments with blocking action of opioids. When the participants were given a drug - blocker that their pain is not reduced even when the red herring that have been successful before.
"Methods based on the technique of distraction, is effective in treating chronic pain and the present study confirmed the great potential of these approaches," - say physicians. (READ MORE)
